NORMAN – Junior Maggie Nichols and freshman Olivia Trautman were named Big 12 weekly award winners, the conference announced Monday.
Nichols (Event Specialist of the Week) and Trautman (Newcomer of the Week) were recognized by the league for their impressive performances in leading the Sooners to victory over No. 2 UCLA on Sunday. This is the 19th career honor for Nichols and seventh for Trautman.
Nichols came in clutch for the Sooners, helping secure the win. On beam, she took home the event title with yet another 9.975 performance. It was the fourth 9.975 in her last five meets and her fifth of the season. The beam performance gave the Sooners the exact score needed to be tied with UCLA heading to the final rotation. On bars, Nichols earned a 9.925 for the Sooners, her seventh score of 9.9 or better this season. Nichols has now posted a 9.9 or better on the event in every meet she has competed this year.
Trautman was named the Newcomer of the Week for the sixth time this season. Trautman was incredible for the Sooners once again, earning a 9.95 on floor and a 9.85 on vault. On floor, Trautman capped off an incredible meet for the No. 1 Sooners against the No. 2 Bruins earning a 9.95, her ninth score of 9.9 or better this season. Trautman has yet to earn below a 9.9 on the event and posted her fifth score of 9.95 or better this season.
The Sooners will hit the road for the final time in the regular season for a dual weekend at Michigan and Iowa State. OU will face No. 9 Michigan on Saturday, March 9 at 11 a.m. CT. before traveling to conference rival Iowa State on March 11 for a 6:30 p.m. CT meet.
