NORMAN – The Oklahoma women's tennis team capped off the 2019 home slate with a 7-0 sweep of Baylor Sunday.

With the victory, the Sooners improved to 14-5 on the season and 4-2 in Big 12 play. The win was also good for OU's first over Baylor since 2004.

“It was good for us to win that 7-0. We battled until the end on every court,” said OU head coach Audra Cohen. “Sometimes it's easy to go away when you clinch the match at 4-0 and not put in the fight to finish the last three matches, so credit to these girls for having that kinds of resilience and work ethic to keep trucking through.

Every week somebody different steps up and what's great about this team is that we have the ability to step up at every spot, and the more we get closer to the Big 12 tournament, it's important that we continue to grow so we can step up at the same time.”

OU opened the match with the doubles point in dominant fashion. No. 78 Martina Capurro and Camila Romero shut out Paula Baranano and Dominika Sujova 6-0 on court two.

Jasmine Asghar and Ivana Corley sealed the point with a 6-1 victory over Livia Kraus and Kris Sorokolet at the top spot.

When play was halted, Oleksandra Korashvili and Kianah Motosono trailed Jessica Hinojosa and Katelyn Parker 4-3.

Corley struck first in singles, giving up just one game en rote to a 6-0, 6-1 rout of Parker at the No. 6 line.

No. 19 Korashvili took down her sixth ranked opponent of the season when she defeated No. 59 Kraus at the top spot. Korashvili took the match 6-1, 6-1 to improve to 5-1 against Big 12 opponents.

On court three, Asghar held on for a three-set victory over Baranano to seal the match for the Sooners. Asghar gave up the first set 6-3 but fired back to take set two 6-3 and force a third. In the final set, Asghar jumped out to a 5-0 lead before closing the set out 6-1.

Romero bested Sorokolet 6-3, 0-6, 7-5 at the No. 4 line. The sophomore won the first set handily before Sorokolet took the second. The final frame saw ties at every game up to five before Romero ran away with it.

On court five, Motosono held off Sujova in three sets. Motosono took the first 6-3, but Sujova claimed set two 6-4. In the deciding set, the Sooner went up 4-0 before closing it out 6-3.

Capurro completed the sweep with a win over Hinojosa on court two. Capurro dropped the first set after a tiebreaker 7-6 (2) but held strong to claim an extended second set 7-5. Capurro won the match after a 10-point tiebreaker, 1-0 [8].
