STILLWATER, Okla. – The Oklahoma baseball team overcame a five-run deficit to tie the game in the eighth inning, but Oklahoma State scored in the bottom of the ninth to win 6-5 Tuesday evening in a non-conference Bedlam contest at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.

The 19th-ranked Sooners (21-5) cut it to 5-2 in the fourth inning on a two-run home run by second baseman Conor McKenna, then tied the game with three runs in the eighth inning. McKenna's fielder's choice in the eighth made the score 5-5, and he finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

In the bottom of the ninth, a one-out single and a walk put two runners on base for the Cowboys (16-7). OU appeared to end the inning with a 3-6-3 double play, but the batter was ruled safe at first upon replay review. Shortstop Max Hewitt then singled up the middle to score the winning run.

“Our kids showed a lot of fortitude coming back and tying the game,” Oklahoma head coach Skip Johnson said. “We'll grow from it, because it's better for us. It might hurt right now, but it will help us in the long run. It was good for (starter) Ben (Abram) to get out in that environment. He hadn't really pitched in that environment on the road like that and he'll grow from it.”

OU tied the game 5-5 with three runs in the top of the eighth inning on three hits and three errors. Tyler Hardman hit a double to the left center field gap to score shortstop Brandon Zaragoza and a bobble on the play allowed Brylie Ware to score and make it 5-4. McKenna drove in his third run of the game on a fielder's choice, scoring Hardman to knot it up at 5-all.

Oklahoma State scored five runs in the second inning on an RBI double by designated hitter Jake Taylor, an RBI single by right fielder Carson McCusker and a three-run home run by first baseman Alix Garcia.

Sophomore Zack Matthews (0-2) absorbed the loss for OU while Ben Leeper (2-0) earned the win for OSU. Sooners freshman Ben Abram struck out six batters over 5.0 innings in a no decision. He faced one batter more than the minimum other than the second inning. Sophomore Ledgend Smith and freshman Jaret Godman both pitched 1.1 shutout innings in relief. OU caught three runners stealing, including two runners in the seventh inning.

The Sooners are on the road this weekend for a three-game Big 12 series at West Virginia. Game times are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. CT Friday, 3 p.m. CT Saturday and noon CT Sunday.
