OU Blows Past Cyclones

AMES, Iowa – The No. 30 Oklahoma women's tennis team dominated Iowa State Sunday for a 6-1 victory in Ames.

OU (13-4, 3-1 Big 12) opened the match with the doubles point before rounding up five singles victories to defeat the Cyclones.

The Sooners made quick work of courts one and two in doubles. At the top spot, Ivana Corley and Jasmine Asghar gave up just one game to defeat Regina Espindola and Ekaterina Grib 6-1.

No. 78 Capurro and Romero sealed the point with a 6-2 victory over Maty Cancini and Ekaterina Repina at the No. 2 line for their fifth straight victory as a pair.

When play was halted, Oleksandra Korashvili and Kianah Motosono trailed Margarita Timakova and Annabella Bonadonna 4-1 on court three.

Korashvili, Capurro, Motosono and Romero all tallied singles victories on the day.

No. 19 Korashvili made quick work of Cancini on court one, winning 6-3, 6-0. Korashvili has won nine straight matches and remains undefeated (4-0) against Big 12 opponents this season.

Capurro struck next at the No. 2 line. The sophomore defeated Espindola 6-2, 6-2 to push OU's lead to 3-0 in the match.

Motosono clinched the contest for the Sooners on court five. Motosono breezed through her first set with Bonadonna 6-1, then took set two 6-4.

Romero took down Repina 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 4 line.

Corley tacked on a win when she took down Timakova on court six. The freshman gave up the first set 7-6 (3) before cruising through set two 6-1. That sent the court to a 10-point tiebreaker in lieu of a third set, which she won 1-0 [10-6].

At the No. 3 line, Asghar suffered a narrow loss to Grib, 6-7 (10), 6-2, 1-0 [7].

The Sooners return to Norman to host Texas on Friday, March 29 at 4 p.m. CT in a match that will be aired on Fox Sports Oklahoma. OU will welcome Baylor to the Headington Family Tennis Center on Sunday, March 31 at 11 a.m.
