OU Opens Big 12 Play with Win Over Wildcats

NORMAN – The No. 30 Oklahoma women's tennis team opened Big 12 action with a win over No. 33 Kansas State Friday at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
The victory was OU's (11-3) sixth straight and third consecutive win over a ranked opponent.
The Sooners made quick work of the Wildcats to take the doubles point before Ivana Corley, Oleksandra Korashvili, Camila Romero and Kianah Motosono all notched singles victories.
OU gave up just one game to take the opening point. On court two, No. 75 Martina Capurro and Camila Romero took down Kansas State's Ines Mesquita and Karine-Marion Job 6-1.
Oleksandra Korashvili and Kianah Motosono once again clinched the doubles point for the Sooners, shutting out Ioana Gheorgita and Maria Linares 6-0.
When play was halted, Jasmine Asghar and Ivana Corley trailed Anna Turco and Margot Decker 4-3.
Corley sped through court six to grab OU's first win. The freshman took down Maria Ponomareva 6-3, 6-0, never trailing in the match.
No. 40 Korashvili picked up her sixth straight victory when she defeated Decker 6-3, 6-4. The first set was tied at every game up to 3-all before Korashvili took over. In the second, the junior broke at deuce point to claim the win.
On court four, No. 121 Romero defeated Turco in three sets 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 to push her winning streak to four matches. Romero came out on top of a tight first set but Turco took set two to force a third. Romero dominated the final frame, leading the entire set. Her victory sealed the match for the Sooners, good for her fourth clinch of the season.
Motosono was the cherry on top for the Sooners with a win over Mesquite at the No. 5 line. Motosono gave up the first set 6-4 but fired back to take the second 6-3 to force a deciding set. The freshman dominated her third frame 6-3.
Capurro fell to Linares 7-6 (4), 6-3 on court two. Asghar dropped to Job after three sets 5-7, 6-4, 6-0.

OU returns to action Sunday to host No. 10 Kansas at noon CT. Sunday is kids day, and free face painting, balloon animals and post-match autographs will be available for fans.
Live stats will be available for the contest. Weather permitting, the match will be played outdoors.
