SAN DIEGO – The Oklahoma baseball team dropped its finale of the Tony Gwynn Legacy tournament 8-6 to No. 24 Cal State Fullerton Sunday afternoon at Fowler Park. It was the first loss of the season for the Sooners, who are now 6-1.
Sophomore first baseman Tyler Hardman hit a three-run home run and sophomore left fielder Jordan Vujovich doubled home two runs. Hardman's home run was his second of the season, both of which came this weekend, and totaled nine RBIs in the two games at Fowler Park.
OU scored three runs in the second on an RBI single by sophomore designated hitter Cade Cavalli and the double by Vujovich. Fullerton tied the score with two runs in the third and one in the fourth, then took a 7-3 lead in the fifth inning. The Sooners answered in the bottom half with Hardman's homer to pull within 7-6. The Titans (4-2) added a run in the sixth to reach the eventual final score.
Sophomore Levi Prater (1-1) took the loss in the start for the Sooners while Fullerton reliever Kyle Luckham (1-0) earned the win in relief. Prater tallied a career-high nine strikeouts.
