NORMAN — University of Oklahoma redshirt senior Connor McGinnis has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Football Second Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Monday.
A native of Oklahoma City, McGinnis graduated in August with his bachelor's degree in finance and is pursuing his master's degree in the same field. He has served as OU's holder for all four of his seasons, helping Sooners placekickers convert 64 of 77 career field goals (.831) and 311-314 extra-point attempts (.990). Those figures include a perfect 17 for 17 on field goals and 71 for 71 on PATs this year. In three of those seasons, he was the holder for the record-setting Austin Seibert, who broke FBS career standards for kick scoring and extra points made and attempted, and is OU's and the Big 12's all-time leading scorer.
McGinnis is one of 21 Academic All-America team members with a perfect 4.0 GPA. He was named to the Academic All-District team in 2018 and 2019, is a four-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team honoree and was a semifinalist this season for the William V. Campbell Trophy. He won the 2017 Mortell Holder of the Year Award and is a finalist for the award again this year.
McGinnis is Oklahoma's 41st Academic All-American in football (total of 53 honors) and first since Ty Darlington in 2015. The CoSIDA Academic All-America program recognizes football honorees for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
