Sooners Sign 20 on First Day of Early Period

NORMAN — University of Oklahoma head football coach Lincoln Riley announced the signing of 20 members of his third recruiting class Wednesday, the first day of the NCAA's early signing period.
Of the 20 signees, 15 are ranked as four-star prospects on a five-star scale by recruiting sites 247Sports, ESPN or Rivals, while the other five earned consensus three-star designation. The early signing period lasts through Friday, while the regular signing period runs from Feb. 5 through April 1.
"What an exciting time for our football program," said Riley, who has won Big 12 championships and taken OU to the College Football Playoff in each of his first three years as head coach. "It's been an interesting last couple of weeks, but it's been a lot of fun. I'd say first, a lot of momentum with what our team has accomplished this year and the previous few years that you can certainly feel on the recruiting trail. I give a lot of credit to the results so far today to our staff, our coaches, our recruiting staff.
Seventeen of OU's 20 signees are high schoolers and the other three are attending junior college. Wednesday's signees hail from nine states as well as Washington, D.C.
The state of Texas produced the most OU signees on Wednesday with eight, while Oklahoma, Missouri and North Carolina each produced two. The Sooners also signed one player each from Arizona, California, Florida, Illinois, Maryland and Washington, D.C.
Referring to the possibility of OU signing more players to its 2020 group, Riley said, "There will be more additions to this class as this thing goes on, but certainly a tremendous start."
As of 6 p.m. CT Wednesday, OU's class ranked No. 9 nationally by Rivals and No. 11 by 247Sports and ESPN.
