NORMAN – University of Oklahoma head coach Skip Johnson announced hometown standout pitcher and infielder Cade Horton as the 14th member of the Sooners' 2020 recruiting class Wednesday.

Horton, a right-hander from Norman High School in Norman, Okla., is rated as the No. 2 player in Oklahoma by Perfect Game and Prep Baseball Report and the No. 14 player nationally by Prep Baseball Report and No. 34 by Perfect Game. A 2019 Perfect Game All-American, he participated in the 2019 Area Code Games and the MLB Prospect Development Pipeline. He competed in the Major League Baseball High School All Star Game last summer in Cleveland, Ohio.

A two-sport athlete, Horton has batted over .400 in each of his three high school seasons, including a .462 average as a sophomore in 2018 and a .400 average as a junior in 2019. He was named the Central Oklahoma Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2018. He also played quarterback for the Tigers' football team and accumulated more than 5,400 yards passing and 72 touchdowns (44 passing, 28 rushing). He was named the District 6A-I-1 and co-Player of the Year and COAC co-Offensive Player of the Year for the 2019 football season.

Horton is the sixth Oklahoma standout to sign with the Sooners as part of the 2020 recruiting class, joining pitcher Nicholas Andrews (Washington, Okla.), pitcher Carson Atwood (Ardmore, Okla.), outfielder Jace Bohrofen (Oklahoma City, Okla.), pitcher/infielder Dax Fulton (Mustang, Okla.) and pitcher Carson Thomas (Midwest City, Okla.). He is the ninth pitcher and second two-way baseball athlete in the class (Fulton is the other pitcher/infielder).

Of the 14 members of the early signing class, eight are ranked among the top 20 prospects in their respective states (10 among the top 60) and 10 are rated among the top 400 players in the nation (seven among the top 100), according to Prep Baseball Report. Baseball America ranked OU's early signing class No. 7 nationally on Nov. 13.
