NORMAN – Four Sooners poured in points in double figures and
Madi Williams had a double-double as the Sooners bounced Sam Houston State 95-71 Sunday inside Lloyd Noble Center.
With the victory, OU improves to 6-4 this season while SHSU moved to 4-4 overall.
"I thought our team followed up what was a really good performance last Saturday with another one this afternoon," said head coach
Sherri Coale. "I liked our shot selection, I liked our defensive intensity in the half-court; we got a little undisciplined with the full-court, but overall, I thought we controlled the pace, played the way we wanted to play and had some terrific individual performances tonight."
Taylor Robertson once again led the squad with 21, marking her sixth 20-point game this season. Robertson drained her 50
th trey of the season during the third quarter and finished 4-for-7 from behind the arc.
Ana Llanusa was right behind with 19 to go with six rebounds, three assists and a steal. Williams' double-double – her fourth this season – included 16 points and 10 boards. Freshman
Gabby Gregory poured in 11 points and was perfect from the charity stripe, going 7-for-7.
Tatum Veitenheimer did it all for the Sooners, posting six assists, six steals and four rebounds in addition to six points.
"I think she did some great things today," said Coale of Veitenheimer. "As a coach, the first thing you look at is how did your point guard manage the game and how did she value the basketball? I thought she handled the pace and controlled the tempo extremely well against a lot of physicality and a lot of speed."
Mandy Simpson pulled down nine boards and dished four assists in the effort. Freshman
Liz Scott made her first appearance for the Sooners and scored her first collegiate bucket just seconds after taking the floor to start the fourth quarter.
The Sooners trailed just once in the game when SHSU took the lead at 23-21 in the second quarter, but OU roared back to lead the remainder of the game by as many as 30.
