NORMAN – The Oklahoma women's basketball team pushed its winning streak to three games as it powered past Drake 84-93 Tuesday inside Lloyd Noble Center.
With the victory, OU improves to 7-4 on the year and Drake moves to 7-3.
Tuesday's win marked the first time since Feb. 17, 2018 that five Sooner scored in double figures as
Taylor Robertson scored 21;
Madi Williams posted 17; Veitenheimer had a career-high 16;
Gabby Gregory chipped in 13; and
Ana Llanusa added 11. The Sooners eclipsed the 90-point mark for the third consecutive game as they defeated Drake for the first time in four games in series history.
"Total team effort against a really good team," said head coach
Sherri Coale. "That is a volatile offense that (Drake runs). We won't see anybody who plays better together or plays with a better understanding of the game than that team does offensively. I credit our defense with speeding them up a little bit and not letting things be easy in the first half.
"It felt like when we were able to take away the three, even though we gave up some twos, we were on the better end of that deal. Offensively, all five guys on our team wanted the ball and taking their opportunities to score, that changes things obviously."
Veitenheimer's 16 points came on 5-of-9 shooting and the sophomore went 3-for-4 from beyond the arc. The Windthorst, Texas, native stuffed the stat sheet for the second consecutive game as she dished five assists and picked up five boards.
Sharpshooter Robertson hit five treys on the night as the Sooners shot 46.2% (12-for-26) from deep.
Defensively, OU forced 21 Drake turnovers and converted those for 21 points. The Sooners' bench came up strong as it accounted for 25 points, with Williams notching 17 of those.
"I think we're doing really well as a team," said Veitenheimer. "The last three games on all of our scouts we've all said that our shot selection has been well. It's something that we're trying to focus on, getting the ball and pushing, hitting (Robertson) for good shots. I think we've been doing well on offense and that's why we're able to … score a bunch."
