Military Appreciation Day Saturday

NORMAN – In advance of Veterans Day and as part of its military appreciation celebration, the OU Athletics Department has several special activities planned surrounding Saturday's football game against Iowa State.

Following is a list of plans for Saturday, some weather permitting:

  • An array of large-scale military equipment will be on display at the Party at the Palace, located just north of Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, throughout the day Saturday. Party at the Palace will begin at 3 p.m., and a swearing-in ceremony will be held at approximately 5:30 p.m.
  • The Golden Knights, the official U.S. Army Parachute Team, are scheduled to deliver the game ball by landing in the stadium before the Pride of Oklahoma's pregame show at approximately 6:45 p.m.
  • giant American flag approximately 85 yards long is scheduled to be displayed on the field during the National Anthem, held by members of the OU ROTC, Student Veterans Association, and representatives from Fort Sill, Tinker Air Force Base other veterans in the area.
  • The 145th Army Band will perform alongside the Pride of Oklahoma at halftime. A pyro show and special performance commemorating the 75th anniversary of D-Day is also planned.
  • A number of special in-game recognitions of veterans, including the most recent Medal of Honor recipient, Master Sgt. Matt Williams.
  • Fans can write 'thank-you' letters to veterans at the Operation Hat Trick (OHT) display outside The Sooner Shop on the west side of the stadium from 4:30-6:30 p.m.
  • The first 500 OU students through the gate will receive a free OU football hat with an American flag patch.

OU's other usual game day festivities, including the Party at the Palace north of the stadium (3-6:30 p.m.) and Walk of Champions (team arrival; approximately 5 p.m. at Lindsey and Jenkins) are also on as usual.
