FORT WORTH, Texas – The Oklahoma volleyball team wrapped up the regular season with a win, ousting TCU, 3-1, Wednesday night. The Sooners improved to 19-8 on the year and 11-5 in conference play while TCU fell to 9-16, 4-11.
The Sooners won a wild fourth set that saw 17 ties and 11 lead changes to take the match 24-26, 25-23, 25-17, 36-34. OU swept the season series with TCU after earning a 3-0 victory on Sept. 25. This is the first time since 2012 that the Sooners have earned the season sweep over five conference opponents.
The Sooners outhit the Horned Frogs, .279-.264, putting away 60 kills. Ashlynn Dunbar led the charge with 26 kills on a .230 clip, while Paige Anderson added 12 on a .526 clip. Kylee McLaughlin dished out 50 assists to go with seven digs and four kills.
Keyton Kinley led OU's defense with 14 digs, while Aysia Harty added 10 of her own. The Sooners put up 10.0 total blocks, with Brianna Kadiku accounting for seven of them and Sarah Sanders tallying five.
OU notched seven service aces in the match with three coming from Kadiku.
TCU would take a back-and-forth first set, 26-24. The set saw seven ties and four lead changes with Dunbar notching seven of her 26 kills in the first frame. Set two saw nine ties and four lead changes as OU would even things up with a 25-23 win. OU hit .357 in the second set as McLaughlin laid down the kill to clinch the frame.
The Sooners dominated in set three, hitting .429 in the set to TCU's .148. Dunbar added another five sets in the frame and McLaughlin came up clutch with her fourth kill of the night to clinch the set, 25-17.
The fourth set was a wild one with the Sooners outlasting the Horned Frogs, 36-34. The Sooners climbed back from a five-point deficit early on to tie the set at 19-all. OU would get to match point four times, but TCU would continue to battle. Kadiku came up with a solo block to bring up the final match point and an error from TCU would clinch the match for Oklahoma.
The Sooners will find out their postseason fate on Sunday, Dec. 1. The NCAA Tournament selection show will air on ESPNU at 7:30 p.m. CT.
