Hurts and Lamb Named Major Award Finalists

NORMAN — University of Oklahoma senior quarterback Jalen Hurts and junior wide receiver CeeDee Lamb were announced as finalists for prominent national awards on Thursday. Hurts was named a finalist for the Maxwell Award for the Collegiate Player of the Year and the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award, and Lamb is a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award.

Hurts is a finalist for the Maxwell Award along with Joe Burrow of LSU and Chase Young of Ohio State while Hurts, Burrow and Ohio State's Justin Field are the finalists for the Davey O'Brien Award. Lamb is a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award along with Ja'Marr Chase of LSU and Michael Pittman Jr. of USC.

The OU duo has combined to lead one of the most prolific offenses in the country this season. The Sooners pace the nation in total offense (574.7 yards per game), yards per play (8.4) and yards per pass attempt (11.4) and are third in passing efficiency (196.9 rating) and yards per rush (6.4) and fifth in scoring offense (45.3 points per game).

Hurts, also a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award, is one of only three players in FBS history to register at least 3,000 passing yards (3,184) and 1,000 rushing yards (1,156) 11 games into a season. He leads the nation in yards per pass attempt (11.8; the FBS record is 11.6), yards per completion (16.6), points responsible for per game (25.8) and total touchdowns (47), while ranking second in total offense (394.5 ypg) and third is passing efficiency rating (203.1; the single-season FBS record is 199.4). He also ranks sixth nationally in completion percentage (.714; OU record is .709 by Baker Mayfield in 2016), passing touchdowns (30) and rushing touchdowns (17; second among QBs). He averages 289.5 passing yards and 105.1 rushing yards per contest.

The Houston, Texas, product is the only FBS player since 1996 to post a passing efficiency rating of 245.0 or better five times in the same season (minimum 15 attempts), and the only player to do so more than three times. Hurts is also the only FBS player with more than three games this season of two-plus rushing touchdowns and two-plus passing TDs (he has five such performances).

Hurts has compiled 4,340 yards of total offense (3,184 passing, 1,156 rushing) and is second among OU quarterbacks in single-season rushing yards and third in rushing touchdowns (Jack Mildren had 1,289 rushing yards and 20 rushing TDs in 1971). Hurts is just eight total TDs shy of the school record of 55 set by Sam Bradford in 2008.

Lamb, a consensus first-team midseason All-American, ranks third nationally with 14 receiving touchdowns and with his 21.7 yards per catch. He ranks 13th in the country with his 99.9 receiving yards per game despite ranking 87th with just 4.6 catches per contest.

The Richmond, Texas, product has made at least one touchdown reception in nine of his 10 games this season and is tied for the lead among Power Five players with five games of 135-plus receiving yards. He also leads the nation's non-seniors with his 32 career receiving TDs and 2,964 career receiving yards. Lamb ranks second at OU in career receiving TDs, fourth in career receiving yards and 18th in career all-purpose yards, in just under three years of competition.

The winners of the Maxwell, O'Brien and Biletnikoff awards will be announced at the Home Depot College Football Awards on Dec. 12 in Atlanta.
