Murray Named Lott IMPACT Trophy Semifinalist

NORMAN — University of Oklahoma junior linebacker Kenneth Murray has been named a semifinalist for the Lott IMPACT Trophy, it was announced Thursday evening.
 
Murray, who was also named a semifinalist for the Butkus Award (best collegiate linebacker) and Bednarik Award (defensive player of the year), is one of nine semifinalists for the Lott IMPACT Trophy. He leads the Sooners in tackles (70) and has accounted for 9.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, three pass breakups and three quarterback hurries.
 
The Missouri City, Texas, product was named a first-team midseason All-American by ESPN and was named the Lott IMPACT Player of the Week after the season-opening win over Houston when he finished with 13 tackles, 2.5 TFLs, one pass breakup and a QB hurry. He earned the weekly honor again this week after tallying eight tackles (seven solo) and 2.0 TFLs in OU's comeback win at Baylor on Saturday. He earned Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honors after tallying five tackles (with 2.0 TFLs and a sack) against Texas. He also notched nine tackles and a sack against Texas Tech and recorded nine stops (six solo) and 1.5 TFLs against West Virginia.
 
Defensive players are selected for their IMPACT on their team both on and off the field. IMPACT stands for Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity. A national voter panel will choose the winner for the award that will be presented by Ronnie Lott at the Lott IMPACT Trophy Award Show on Dec. 15 at the Pacific Club in Newport Beach, Calif.
