Sooners Wreck Tech

October 26, 2019 | Volleyball

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Oklahoma volleyball team picked up its third straight Big 12 win Saturday as the Sooners topped Texas Tech 3-1. OU took the match 22-25, 25-21, 27-25, 26-24, to improve to 14-5 overall and 6-2 in league play.

OU swung .165 in the match while holding Texas Tech to .146. The Sooners just edged Tech in kills 58-57 but the defense shone once again as OU posted a season-high 16.0 blocks to Texas Tech's 9.0.

Sarah Sanders paced the Sooners' offense with 16 kills on a .255 clip. Three more Sooners joined her in double figures as Paige Anderson and Ashlynn Dunbar chipped in 11 apiece and freshman Sanaá Dotson had 10.

Defensively, Anderson posted seven of OU's 16 blocks, including a solo late in the fourth set to bring up match point for the Sooners. Keyton Kinley led in digs with 28, while Dunbar added 14 for a double-double.

Setter Kylee McLaughlin also had a double-double as she dished out 48 assists to go with 16 digs.

Texas Tech took the opening frame 25-22 before OU roared back to win the next three. In set two, the Sooners jumped out to an early lead before the Red Raiders tied it at 15-all. OU used back-to-back blocks from Anderson to gain separation and rolled from there, with freshman Dotson putting away the final ball for 25-22 OU.

The Sooners won the third set in extra points, holding on to take the frame 27-25. Texas Tech looked to close at 25-24, but a kill from Dunbar brought up 25-all. Sanders swung for her 11th kill of the night to give OU a lead, then a Red Raiders hitting error gave OU the set.

The final frame again came down to the wire with a tie at 24-all, thanks to a kill from Anderson. The junior posted her seventh block of the match to bring up match point at 25-24, then

McLaughlin got a kill off a Dunbar assist to end the contest for the Sooners. With the win, OU remains undefeated (6-0) in four-set matches.
