October 23, 2019 | Women's Basketball

NORMAN - The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced Wednesday that Oklahoma junior Ana Llanusa is one of 20 players named to its watch list for the 2020 Cheryl Miller Award.

Named after the three-time Naismith Player of the Year, the annual award is in its third year of recognizing the top small forwards in women's NCAA Division I college basketball. A national committee comprised of top college basketball personnel determined the watch list of 20 candidates.

A Preseason All-Big 12 selection, Llanusa averaged 19.1 points per game during Big 12 play last season, which ranked third in the league. Her conference-game scoring average is the sixth-best by a Sooner since OU joined the Big 12.

The Choctaw, Okla., native scored 30 points three times against Big 12 foes in 2018-19, including a career-high 35 points at Iowa State on Jan. 19. Llanusa set a school record with six straight 20-point scoring performances down the stretch in Big 12 play.Ā

Llanusa earned All-Big 12 Second Team honors in 2018-19 and was an honorable mention All-Big 12 selection in 2017-18.

One of three Big 12 players named to the watch list, Llanusa is joined by Didi Richards (Baylor) and Ashley Joens (Iowa State).

The watch list will be narrowed to 10 by mid-February. In March, five finalists will be presented to Ms. Miller and the Hall of Fame's selection committee. The winner of the 2020 Cheryl Miller Award will be presented at The College Basketball Awards in Los Angeles, Calif., on Friday, April 10, 2020.

Previous winners of the Cheryl Miller Award include Bridget Carleton (Iowa State, 2019) and Gabby Williams (Connecticut, 2018).

Llanusa is the second Sooner to be named to a 20-player watch list for one of the 2020 Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Awards. Sophomore guard was selected to the Ann Meyers Drysdale Watch List on Tuesday as one of the top shooting guards in women's college basketball.
