NORMAN ā The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced Tuesday that Oklahoma sophomore guard
Taylor Robertson is one of 20 players named to its watch list for the 2020 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award.
Named after the first player, male or female, named to the All-America Team in four straight college seasons, the annual award is in its third year of recognizing the top shooting guard in women's NCAA Division I college basketball. A national committee comprised of top college basketball personnel determined the watch list of 20 candidates.
Hailing from McPherson, Kan., Robertson averaged 14.3 points per game during her freshman season, knocking down an OU freshman record 105 3-pointers and finishing with a .467 clip from beyond the arc. The Big 12 All-Freshman selection ranked second nationally in 3-point field goal percentage and finished fifth in Division I with 3.50 3-pointers made per game.
Robertson's 105 3-pointers in 2018-19 marked the second-most made in one season by a Sooner. She also posted an .889 free throw percentage, the third-best mark in OU single-season history. Robertson was named the Big 12 Freshman of the Week four times during the season.
One of three Big 12 players named to the watch list, Robertson is joined by Juicy Landrum (Baylor) and Tynice Martin (West Virginia).
The watch list will be narrowed to 10 by mid-February. In March, five finalists will be presented to Ms. Meyers Drysdale and the Hall of Fame's selection committee. The winner of the 2020 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award will be presented at The College Basketball Awards in Los Angeles, Calif., on Friday, April 10, 2020.
Previous winners of the award include Asia Durr, (Louisville, 2019) and Victoria Vivians (Mississippi State, 2018).
