NORMAN – The Oklahoma volleyball team pushed its home winning streak to eight matches Saturday as it ousted Iowa State 3-1.
OU prevailed 25-15, 25-12, 23-25, 25-18 in front of 1,200 fans inside McCasland Field House. With the victory, Oklahoma moves to 13-5 on the season and 5-2 in Big 12 action. Iowa State moves to 11-7 overall with a 2-4 mark against league teams.
"The message this week was don't let someone come into your own gym and out work you in a game that we love," said head coach
Lindsey Gray-Walton. "I was really proud of their mental fortitude to stay engaged throughout a long rally, reset every point whether we were up big. We kind of dwelled a bit after the third set and kind of felt bad about ourselves and we kind of had to get over that."
"I was just proud to see just how they could sustain that energy because mentally, it can be draining. Then to bounce back and recover, I was really proud of how we closed out this set of matches and we get the week ahead to kind of recover."
The Sooners outhit Iowa State .235 to .121 as OU put away 53 kills.
Ashlynn Dunbar led the charge with 13 kills on a .211 clip while
Paige Anderson and
Sarah Maras were right behind with 12 apiece.
Kylee McLaughlin dished out 37 assists to go with 10 digs for a double-double.
Keyton Kinley led OU's defense with 21 digs while adding eight assists of her own.
Paige Johnson joined Kinley in double-digit digs with 14. The Sooners put up 7.0 total blocks with
Paige Anderson accounting for four of them.
OU tallied 10 service aces in the match, good for a season high. Seven of those came in the second set.
Sarah Maras led the Sooners with four.
The Sooners dominated the first two sets. OU held Iowa State to a .000 hitting percentage in the first set as Oklahoma put away 14 kills on a .289 clip. The Sooners used an 8-0 run with
Paige Johnson behind the service line to gain separation and take the set 25-15.
With Johnson serving to start the second set, OU got off to a 7-0 start. Johnson had two aces in that run and the Sooners would go on to fire off five more in the frame. The offense continued to roll as grad transfer
Ashlynn Dunbar went off for seven kills.
Iowa State rallied to take set three 25-23, but the Sooners fired back in the fourth set to win 25-18. Dunbar blasted six more kills and OU aced three more serves for a total of 10 on the night.
