January 30, 2019 | Baseball

NORMAN – University of Oklahoma senior Brylie Ware and sophomore Levi Prater were selected to the Preseason All-Big 12 Baseball Team, in a vote by the league's head coaches.

With the two preseason selections in Ware and Prater, Oklahoma is tied for the third-most preseason all-conference honorees. Texas Tech has five selections, Baylor has four and Texas also has two, while Oklahoma State, Kansas, Kansas State, TCU and West Virginia each have one player on the preseason Big 12 team.

Ware, a third baseman from Sedgwick, Kan., was a second-team All-Big 12 selection in 2018. He batted .331 with 20 doubles, 41 RBI, 29 runs scored and posted a .411 on-base percentage. He hit .352 in conference play last year with 24 RBI. In two seasons at OU, Ware has compiled a .316 batting average, 136 hits, 72 RBI, 30 doubles and 63 runs scored in 119 games.

Prater, a left-handed pitcher from Ada, Okla., was named to the 2018 Big 12 All-Freshman Team. In 33 appearances across 50.2 innings, he struck out 64 batters and walked 28, and posted a 4.09 ERA and a 3-4 record. He was part of two the Sooners' seven combined shutouts and allowed opponents to hit just .169 against him.

The Sooners open the 2019 season Feb. 15-17 against Cal Poly at L. Dale Mitchell Park.
