NORMAN The Oklahoma soccer team battled for 110 minutes but couldn't find the back of the net as it tied Texas Tech, 0-0, Friday night at John Crain Field.

The draw was the second of the season for the Sooners after tying Gonzaga on Aug. 26, 1-1. With a 1-0 win over Kansas State on Sunday, OU notched consecutive shutouts in Big 12 play for the first time since posting clean sheets against Texas (Oct. 2) and Iowa State (Oct. 6) in back-to-back games in 2017.

“We knew this would be a tough game and in many ways we matched up quite well with each other,” head coach Matt Potter said. “At this level, to win games and separate yourself, you have to put chances away and I am sure that their coach is thinking the same thing. The game had ebbs and flows both ways for both teams and it was just one of those games. It was a great battle, somewhat like a tactical chess match. When the chances came, which were few and far between, I think both teams would look back and say if we could have just (finished).”

In goal, sophomore McKinley Crone tallied her third shutout of the season and seventh of her career. Five of Crone's seven shutouts have come in conference play, all against different opponents (Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas State, Texas, Tech Tech).

Tech finished with a 16-10 shot advantage, but six crucial saves from Crone helped to keep the Red Raiders off the board.

“The great news is that if we can't do our diligence at the attacking end of the field, then we want to keep people off the score sheet,” Potter said. “That is another clean sheet for us and speaks to the mentality of the players. They are beginning to build within the collective unit. They are very tough to breakdown, are diligent about their jobs, and they understand their roles at this part of the season. We are proving to be tough to score on and that is what you have to be in our conference.”

One of the best scoring chances for the Sooners in the first half came off the foot of senior Marissa McMahand. From close range, McMahand sent her first shot of the night just over the crossbar. In the 19th minute redshirt sophomore Lauren Haivala sent a shot from 18 yards out into the near post, but had her attempt saved by the Tech keeper.

The second half saw the Sooners come out firing, tallying five shots in the first 10 minutes of play. In the 48th minute, the Sooners were close to taking the lead on a free kick opportunity. McMahand sent a free kick from 22 yards out in to redshirt junior Kaylee Dao. Dao's ensuing shot came from two yards out, but the Tech keeper dove for the save.

A pair of quick shots from close range in the 54th minute were blocked and McMahand sent a shot high as the Sooners fought to find the back of the net.

The OU defense fought off some great attempts from the Red Raiders in the two overtime periods. Tech finished with a 4-0 shot advantage in overtime, but the Sooner defense stepped up to keep the clean sheet.

The Sooners will host Oklahoma State in the second Bedlam game of the season on Sunday at 2 p.m. Sunday's matchup will air live on ESPNU.

“That is always the challenge,” Potter said. “It will be a quick turnaround. This is where your roster comes into play. We don't talk about starters and nonstarters. We talk about difference makers and game changers coming in and out. The 11 that are on the field have the responsibility to represent us all. When we make changes, it is because we feel that player can bring something to the game. It is up to us to use the depth of our squad and we trust that. It is up to the players to perform.”
