Irvin Pitches OU to Game One Victory

Three Sooners Earn All-Big 12 First Team Honors

OKLAHOMA CITY –The University of Oklahoma baseball team was well-represented on the 2018 All-Big 12 Team with 12 players earning all-conference recognition, the league office announced Tuesday.

OU's 12 All-Big 12 honors set a program record, besting the previous mark of 11 from last season.

Junior right-handed pitcher Austin Hansen, junior right-handed pitcher Jake Irvin and junior outfielder Steele Walker were all named to the All-Big 12 team. OU's three selections to the All-Big 12 First Team were the most for the Sooners since 2013.

Hansen has recorded six saves and is tied for the team-lead with 30 appearances this season. The junior has a 2-3 record along with a 2.57 ERA in 35 innings of work, striking out 45. Hansen ranks 14th nationally with 30 appearances in relief.

Irvin, OU's Friday night starter throughout the entire season, leads the Big 12 with 103 strikeouts and has a 6-1 record. The junior boasts a 3.01 ERA in 86.2 innings pitched. During the regular season, Irvin was twice named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week. Irvin was a unanimous pick to the All-Big 12 First Team.

Walker, a native of Prosper, Texas, earned All-Big 12 First Team honors for the second straight year and is hitting a team-leading .352 with 13 home runs and 53 RBI. In Big 12 play, Walker hit .370 to go along with eight home runs and 26 RBI, while posting a .707 slugging percentage.

Earning All-Big 12 Second Team honors for the Sooners were junior infielder Brylie Ware and sophomore right-handed pitcher Nathan Wiles. Ware ranks second on the team with a .330 batting average, while picking up 18 doubles and driving in 40 runs. The junior hit .352 in conference play with one home run and 24 RBI. Wiles posted a 6-3 record serving as OU's Sunday starter, posting a 4.03 ERA. The sophomore struck out 55 and allowed just 13 walks in 73.2 innings pitched.

Five Sooners were recognized as All-Big 12 Honorable Mention selections: junior right-hander Connor Berry, junior outfielder Cade Harris, sophomore catcher Brady Lindsly, senior second baseman Kyle Mendehall, redshirt sophomore Kyler Murray and sophomore shortstop Brandon Zaragoza.

Berry leads the Sooners with seven saves to go along with a 1-1 record in 18 appearances. Harris ranks second nationally with 57 walks and leads OU with 58 runs scored, while Lindsly is hitting .276 with one home run and 26 RBI. Mendenhall is hitting a career-best .316, has three home runs and is fourth on the team with 38 RBI. Murray, OU's cleanup hitter, ranks second on the team with 10 home runs and 46 RBI, while hitting .292. Zaragoza has started all 55 games at shortstop and is hitting .282.

Freshman left-hander pitcher Levi Prater was a unanimous pick to the All-Big 12 Freshman Team. Prater ranks second nationally among all freshman with 30 appearances this season. The freshman has a 2-3 record with a 4.15 ERA in 53.1 innings pitched. 

The No. 4 seed Sooners open the Big 12 Championship Wednesday at 9 a.m. against No. 5 seed Baylor at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City.
