NORMAN – Ten University of Oklahoma men's gymnasts were recognized as Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) All-Academic Scholar-Athletes, the conference announced Tuesday.
Redshirt freshman Isamu Ito, sophomore Collyn Kellogg, juniors Levi Anderson, Eric Holley, Grant Kell, Jake Maloley, Brian Schibler and Genki Suzuki, and seniors Hunter Justus and Reese Rickett were honored by the conference.
In addition to MPSF honors, all 10 OU scholar-athletes were named to the Academic All-Big 12 At-Large Team last week.
To qualify as an MPSF All-Academic Scholar-Athlete, gymnasts must maintain a 3.00 or better cumulative GPA, must be at least a sophomore academically and must have competed in at least 50 percent of competitions.
The Sooners travel to Chicago for NCAA Championships this weekend in search for their fourth consecutive title. Only two other men's gymnastics programs – Illinois from 1939 to 1942 and Nebraska from 1979 to 1982 – have won at least four NCAA titles in a row. Championship weekend starts Friday, April 20 with the preliminary round at UIC Pavilion at 7 p.m. CT, followed by the finals the next day at 6 p.m. CT.
