COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- University of Oklahoma freshman Sarah Sanders (Plano, Texas) was named to the U.S. Women's Collegiate National Team-Detroit (CNT-Detroit) by USA Volleyball on Tuesday afternoon. The roster is comprised of 24 college athletes that will train and compete in Detroit from June 22 to July 1.
The CNT-Detroit squad, which is part of USA Volleyball's High Performance pipeline and is considered a second tryout for the U.S. Women's National Team, will train from June 22-26 at the University of Michigan. Afterward, the athletes will be assigned to one of two 12-member teams that will play three exhibition matches against each other at the Cobo Center from June 27-30. The matches will be held in conjunction with the USA Volleyball Girls' Junior National Championships.
Sanders went to USA Volleyball's tryouts in early March with four other Sooner teammates. As a rookie, the 6-foot-4 outside hiter appeared in 26 sets for OU. She totaled 25 kills, 14 blocks, including three solos, and nine digs. Sanders set a career-high in kills with five opening weekend against Colorado (8/26) and posted three kills in a match on three occasions.
Oklahoma volleyball was last represented on the national level by Julia Doyle in 2015 as a member of the Junior National Team.
