Sooners Take No. 4 Texas to Five

NORMAN — In front of a crowd of 2,001 at McCasland Field House, the Oklahoma volleyball team took No. 4 Texas to the wire before narrowly falling in five sets. 

The Sooners (11-8, 3-4 Big 12) and Longhorns (11-4, 6-1 Big 12) exchanged sets throughout the night: 23-25, 25-20, 18-25, 25-23, 9-15. 

Defensively, Oklahoma out-dug Texas by a 73-60 mark. The effort was led by a career-high night from libero Keyton Kinley, who totaled 29 digs. Kylee McLaughlin and Morgan Miller both added 11 digs apiece. 

McLaughlin added 42 assists to earn her ninth double-double of the season. Alyssa Enneking led the match with 20 kills, and Paige Anderson tallied 10. 

The two teams battled in a close first set that featured 11 ties and five lead changes with Texas narrowly winning 25-23. The Sooners bounced back with a dominant second set, hitting .432 while holding the Longhorns at .281. OU had 20 kills – 10 of which came from Enneking – to Texas' 11 in the second frame to earn a 25-20 win. 

After Texas regained the lead by winning the third set 25-18, the Sooners battled back to force a fifth set with a 25-23 win in the fourth. Oklahoma trailed 21-17 late in the frame but closed it out on an 8-2 run. Enneking and Aysia Harty both had aces in that span, Miller and Sarah Sanders each had a kill, Anderson tallied a solo block and Sanders and Brianna Kadiku combined on a denial. 

The Longhorns closed it out with a 15-9 victory in the final set. 

The Sooners' homestand concludes next week as they host West Virginia on Saturday, Oct. 20.
