NORMAN — Oklahoma redshirt junior offensive tackle Orlando Brown has been named to the Associated Press' Preseason All-America Team, the organization announced Tuesday.
Brown started every contest last year at left tackle and earned second-team All-America honors from the AP and Football Writers Association of America. He became the first sophomore to be named Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year as he allowed just one sack over the course of 659 snaps.
His success as a sophomore came after an impressive debut season as a redshirt freshman in 2015. The Duluth, Ga., native was named a Freshman All-American by Sporting News after starting all 13 games at left tackle. Additionally, Brown earned All-Big 12 Honorable Mention recognition from the league's coaches. When he lined up at left tackle in the season opener against Akron, he became one of 10 freshmen in OU history to start a game at offensive tackle.
Along with the preseason All-America honor, Brown has also been named to preseason watch lists for the Maxwell Award, given to the college football player of the year, and the Outland Trophy, awarded to the country's top interior lineman. He was also one of five Sooners named to the Preseason All-Big 12 Football Team.
No. 7/8 OU opens the 2017 season by hosting UTEP on Sept. 2 at 2:30 p.m. CT at Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
