Round One of NCAAs Suspended

NORMAN — The first round of the NCAA Men's Golf Championship in Sugar Grove, Ill., has been delayed until Saturday due to darkness. The Oklahoma men's golf team is currently halfway through the round and sits at even par.

After clear weather conditions in the morning, the afternoon wave of teams endured rain and over three hours of delays due to lightning and flooding at the par-72, 7,300-yard Rich Harvest Farms. Play was suspended just past 8 p.m. CT.

Competing as the No. 13 seed, the Sooners were part of the final group to take the course on Friday and, as a result, have played the fewest number of holes out of the 30-team field. With two golfers through eight holes, one through nine and two through 10, OU is currently tied for 11th place.

"I am really happy where we ended the day with our guys knowing the type of bad draw we had with the weather," OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. "Our guys did a nice job hanging in, and we have 27 holes tomorrow to get after it."

Senior Max McGreevy and junior Grant Hirschman, who have both completed eight holes, are currently 1 under par for the round. Both upperclassmen played bogey free on Friday.

Sophomore Brad Dalke has played 10 holes and sits at even par after firing three birdies on the day.

Junior Rylee Reinertson and sophomore Blaine Hale are currently 2 over, finishing nine and 10 holes, respectively, on Friday.

The 15 teams who have yet to complete the first round will return to the course on Saturday at 6:30 a.m. CT. The second round will follow with tee times beginning at 7:15 a.m. CT. Live scoring will be available on GolfStat.com.
