IRVING, Texas – University of Oklahoma baseball senior first baseman Austin O'Brien (Owasso, Okla.) earned Academic All-Big 12 First Team for the third time in his career. He is one of just two players in the entire league to claim that distinction this season. A total of seven Sooners were honored by the league as released on Tuesday morning.
O'Brien, a health and exercise science major, was voted a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection earlier this season. He was also named the Big 12 Player of the Week on Monday for his ninth-inning heroics to cap off a series upset of No. 5 TCU with a walk-off single in the finale. O'Brien is hitting .305 and slugging .556 with eight home runs this season.
