The No. 10 University of Oklahoma baseball team is back in the “Sooner State” for a non-conference Bedlam match-up in Stillwater on Tuesday., March 21 The Sooners take on No. 21 Oklahoma State at 6:30 p.m. for their sixth consecutive road game. Tuesday's game will air across the Sooner Sports Network and cal be heard locally on the home of Sooner baseball, Sportstalk 1400 AM/99.3 FM. The voice of the Sooners Toby Rowland will handle all of the play-by-play action from the booth. A video stream will be on YouTube with Dave Hunziker (pbp) on the call.
Oklahoma went 4-1 on its road swing through Georgia last week, including a series sweep at Kennesaw State over the weekend. The Sooners, who have won a NCAA-leading 21 games, are 21-3 and ranked in every major poll to enter the week. Oklahoma leads the Big 12 in hitting at .309 and pitching with a 2.62 earned run average. Despite only one hit on the road last week, sophomore Brylie Ware, who started four games at first base in place of injured senior Austin O'Brien (team-high .373 average), is third in the league in hitting with a .368 average and has reached base in 21 of 22 games played. Senior catcher Renae Martinez is fourth in the league with a .365 average after hitting .429 (6-for-14) in Georgia as he hit his second and third home runs of the season. He is slugging .587 and has driven in 15 runs. Sophomore left fielder Steele Walker rounds out the Big 12's top-10 hitters with a .347 average. Walker busted out of a post-21 game hit-streak slump with a five-RBI game on Saturday, including a go-ahead grand slam in the sixth inning to beat Kennesaw State. Oklahoma turns to freshman right-hander Nathan Wiles for his second career start on the bump. He threw six-shutout innings at Georgia State (3/15) to move to 3-0 on the year with a 0.60 ERA.
No. 21 Oklahoma State is 14-6 overall and riding a seven-game win-streak into the week. Left fielder Garrett McCain is the Cowboys leading hitter at .364 to go with a .572 slugging percentage. Third baseman Garrett Benge is second on the team at .356 with five home runs and 26 RBI. OSU is hitting .294 as a team and averaging 7.15 runs per game.

Oklahoma trails Oklahoma State in the all-time series, 154-138. The Sooners hold the longest win streak of the series with an 11-game stretch from 1976-78. In the last three seasons, the Cowboys hold an 11-5 advantage. The longest game played between the two was a 12-9, 18-inning victory for Oklahoma in Stillwater on April 15, 2014. Since 2013, 13 of the 19 meetings have been decided by three runs or less, including six on-run games.
Oklahoma capped off its first Bedlam series win since 2012 by defeating No. 12 Oklahoma State in the series finale, 9-1, at ONEOK Field in Tulsa. Dylan Grove got the win in just his second career start; going 5.2 innings with three strikeouts. The Sooners opened the series with a 9-1 win at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark behind a rain delay-shortened outing by Jake Irvin and a five-RBI night for Cody Thomas. The Cowboys claimed the middle game of the series, but OU fought back from a seven-run deficit and got the tying run to third in the ninth before falling, 10-9 in Tulsa.

The Sooners overcame a six-run deficit to win at Kennesaw State (3/18); marking the first win when trailing by five or more since erasing a five-run gap against West Virginia (4/23/16). Solo home runs in the third and fourth by Ben Hollas and Blake Brewster inched Oklahoma closer. The two sides then traded a run in the fifth and it was 7-3 headed to the sixth. There, OU sent 10 to the plate and scored six runs, including a go-ahead grand slam by Steele Walker with two down. The Sooners added five insurance runs in the eighth and three more in the ninth of a 17-9 win.
In national statistical rankings, Oklahoma peaks in the charts at second in the country in hits (247) and runs (194). The Sooners' 158 runs scored are the sixth most in the country and the pitching staff ranks eighth in ERA at 2.23. Among individuals, Jake Irvin is one of eight pitchers in the country with a NCAA-leading five wins. Renae Martinez is the top ranked Sooner hitter as the third toughest player to strikeout in the country with only one in 63 at-bats.
