- Jake Irvin struck out the side in the top of the first inning; marking the second time in 10 career starts he has struck out the first three players of the game.
- Irvin became the third consecutive right-handed pitcher to start on opening and the third sophomore to start on the mound in the last four seasons.
- Irvin's 10 strikeouts matched a career-high and were the most by an OU starting pitcher on opening day since Andrew Doyle vs Western Illinois in 2009.
- Brandon Zaragoza became the first freshman to start at shortstop for OU since Bryant Hernandez in 2007.
