NORMAN ? University of Oklahoma head football coach Bob Stoops announced his program's 2017 recruiting class Wednesday, a 27-member group that ranked among the top five nationally by Rivals and Scout as of Wednesday morning and one that Stoops says has the potential to be among his best ever.
OU's class, dubbed #SoonerSquad17, is comprised of 25 high schoolers and two junior college players, and features signees from nine states. Ten position groups are represented.
Twenty of the 27 signees ? by far the most among Big 12 programs ? are rated as four-star prospects or higher on a five-star scale by recruiting services 247Sports, ESPN, Rivals or Scout. The other seven are three-star recruits.
“On paper, this might be one of the top two or three classes we've had since I've been here,” said Stoops, who has won 10 Big 12 titles in his 18 years at OU. “It's a really hungry group, and a deep class that covers all of our positions in a really positive way.
“We always start with Oklahoma and Texas, but our brand is national in reach, coming off top-five finishes the last two years, making the College Football Playoff and winning the Sugar Bowl. Once again, that's reflected in the fact we signed players from coast to coast.”

The state of Texas produced the most OU signees with nine, and was followed by Oklahoma (six), North Carolina (three), California, Florida and Louisiana (two each), and Arkansas, Georgia and Missouri (one each).
The 19th signing class under Stoops features 13 offensive and 13 defensive players, as well as a punter. Four of the offensive signees are linemen, three are running backs, three are receivers, one is a quarterback, one an H-back and one a tight end. On the other side of the ball, OU welcomes five defensive backs, four linemen and four linebackers.
A school-record 11 signees enrolled early at OU, are on campus taking classes this semester and will participate in spring practice. They are quarterback Chris Robison, running backs Trey Sermon and Marcelias Sutton, H-back Jeremiah Hall, receiver Marquise Brown, tight end Grant Calcaterra, offensive lineman Creed Humphrey, linebackers Levi Draper, Addison Gumbs and Kenneth Murray, and defensive back Justin Broiles.
“With the quality and depth of these incoming players, this class will help us continue to pursue Big 12 and national championships,” added Stoops.
