NORMAN — Oklahoma senior quarterback Baker Mayfield, junior offensive lineman Orlando Brown and junior tight end Mark Andrews were all named finalists for national awards Monday afternoon.
Mayfield was tabbed a finalist for the Davey O'Brien Award, given to the nation's top quarterback, along with Ohio State's J.T. Barrett and Oklahoma State's Mason Rudolph. Mayfield was also named a finalist for the Maxwell Award, given to the nation's top player, with Penn State's Saquon Barkley and Stanford's Bryce Love.
Andrews was selected as a finalist for the Mackey Award, honoring the country's top tight end, along with Wisconsin's Troy Fumagalli and Penn State's Mike Gesicki.
Brown was chosen as a finalist for the Outland Trophy, awarded to college football's best interior lineman on offense or defense, along with Notre Dame offensive guard Quenton Nelson and Houston defensive tackle Ed Oliver.
The awards will be presented live on Dec. 7 at The Home Depot College Football Awards from Atlanta.
Mayfield leads the FBS in completion percentage (.708), passing efficiency rating (199.3), yards per pass attempt (11.6) and yards per completion (
Mayfield has thrown a TD pass in a Big 12-record 37 consecutive games (every contest of his OU career), which is the fourth longest in FBS history. He's thrown at least two TD passes in a Big 12-record 24 straight contests (74 TDs to 13 interceptions during the stretch), which is believed to be the second-longest streak in FBS history.
Andrews, a midseason All-American by USA Today and the Associated Press, leads the nation's tight ends in receiving yards (787), receiving yards per game (71.5) and yards per catch (16.7), and is third in receptions (47).
Andrews' reception total, which leads the Sooners, is the third most in a single-season by a tight end in program history. For his career, he ranks fourth in OU history in receptions by a tight end (97), tied for eighth overall in career TD receptions (19), 10th overall in career 100-yard receiving games (3) and 16th overall (third among tight ends) with 1,594 career receiving yards.
A team captain, Brown is a mainstay on an OU offensive line that is regarded as one of the best in the country and that has helped the Sooners average 588.7 yards per game and 8.3 yards per play, both tops in the nation. OU also ranks first nationally in pass completion percentage (71.5), pass efficiency rating (201.6), yards per pass attempt (11.8), plays of 20-plus yards (96) and pass plays of 20-plus yards (73), and ranks second nationally in offensive touchdowns (63), passing yards per game (381.8), points per possession (3.46) and percentage of possessions ending in a touchdown (3.46).
