NORMAN – The No. 7 Oklahoma men's golf team is in first place after the opening round of the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational. The three-day, 54-hole tournament is being held at the par-71, 7,017-yard Witch Hollow course at the Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in North Plains, Ore.

Against a competitive field, the Sooners fired a 272 (-12) in the opening round to take the lead at the end of the first day. The Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational features seven teams ranked in the latest Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll.

Junior Blaine Hale carded a career-low 64 (-7) and is in first place on the individual leaderboard heading into the second round. Hale started strong by recording birdies on three of the first four holes to begin his round.

The Dallas, Texas, native finished his day with eight birdies and his 64 was just one stroke shy of tying's OU program record for the lowest individual 18-hole score.

“Blaine (Hale) had an unbelievable day and capitalized on some great ball striking,” OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. “Brad (Dalke) finished his round off nicely. Riley (Casey) did not hit the ball like he would have liked to, but he scored great and that is always positive. It was a really good start for us to begin the tournament.”

Junior Brad Dalke finished his opening round with a 68 (-3) and is tied for 13th place. Dalke pocketed four birdies, three on the back nine, to record his fourth round in the 60s during the fall season.

Sophomore Riley Casey finished strong and posted a 69 (-2) during the first round. Casey wrapped up the day with five birdies, picking up three on the final six holes to close out the day. The sophomore is tied for 18th going into Monday's second round.

Sophomore Garett Reband is tied for 28th place at 71 (E). Senior Grant Hirschman totaled a 73 (+2) in the first round and is in a tie for 46th place.

Stanford sits two strokes behind the Sooners in second place at 274, followed by Vanderbilt in third at 276. USC posted a 277 in the opening round and is in fourth place, while Duke and Florida are tied for fifth at 278.

The second round of the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational will begin at 11:40 a.m. CT. OU will tee off on hole No. 1.
