NORMAN — The Oklahoma soccer team plays a pair of in-state, road matches when it competes at the Tulsa Classic this weekend. The Sooners will play host Tulsa at 7:30 p.m. CT on Friday before facing Memphis at 1 p.m. CT on Sunday in a neutral site contest. Rice will also be participating in the tournament.
GAMEDAY STORYLINES
ROAD TRIP
This weekend's contests will mark the third and fourth of a six-match road trip for the Sooners. Last weekend, OU dropped a match against No. 3 Virginia before defeating George Mason, 4-0, to hold a 1-1-0 overall record in matches away from Norman this season. The Sooners opened 2016 with four straight home matches, posting a 2-1-1 overall record in those games.
BALANCED ATTACK
Through OU's first six matches, 20 Sooners have seen playing time, showcasing the depth the team has on its roster. The Sooners have seen eight different goal scorers, with sophomore forward/midfielder Kaylee Dao leading the way with two. Senior forward Liz Keester, senior midfielder Shiloh Price, senior midfielder/forward Madison Saliba, senior defender Rachel Ressler, sophomore defender Angela Boyle, sophomore defender Jordan Hobart and sophomore forward Emily Parker have all scored a goal each.
SHARING IS CARING
This season, the Sooners have recorded seven assists on 10 goals scored. With a team-high three assists, junior midfielder Lizzie Luallin has already surpassed her total of two from a season ago. Senior forward Liz Keester has equaled her 2015 performance with two assists, and senior midfielder Shiloh Price and sophomore defender Paige Welch have both tallied an assist so far in 2016.
20 YEARS OF OKLAHOMA SOCCER
This season, the Sooners are celebrating 20 years of the Oklahoma soccer program, which was founded in 1996.
LAST TIME OUT
• In an impressive offensive performance that saw four different Sooners record their first goals of the season, OU bounced back from a couple of recent losses by rolling to a 4-0 victory at George Mason last Sunday.
• Senior forward Liz Keester (22nd minute), senior midfielder Shiloh Price (25th minute), senior midfielder/forward Madison Saliba (49th minute) and sophomore forward Emily Parker (86th minute) all tallied their first goals of the season in the contest. Sophomore defender Paige Welch assisted on the Keester score, while junior midfielder Lizzie Luallin added her team-high third assist on Price's goal.
• The early goals represented the first ones scored by the Sooners in the first half this season, while they now have seven in second periods.
• OU redshirt senior Kassidie Stade picked up her second shutout of the season and secured two saves in a full 90 minutes in goal.
SCOUTING REPORTS
TULSA
• The Golden Hurricane enters Friday's match with a 3-2-1 overall record, including a perfect 2-0 mark at home. Tulsa's home wins have come in its last two matches against Missouri State, 3-1, and Houston Baptist, 4-1.
• Six players have combined to score 11 Golden Hurricane goals, led by junior midfielder Rachel Thun with three. Junior midfielder Tana Dake, junior forward Christina Holmes and freshman forward Anna Williams have a pair of scores apiece.
• Juniors Rebecca Defer and Courtney McKeon have both seen time in goal. Defer has played 425:00 minutes, recording 23 saves and allowing five goals, while McKeon has tallied eight saves and allowed five goals in 135:00 minutes of play.
• Kyle Cussen is in his ninth season at the helm of the Tulsa program.
MEMPHIS
• The Tigers hold a 4-1-0 overall record this season, with wins coming over Southeastern Louisiana (4-1), Western Kentucky (2-0), then-No. 19 Ole Miss (2-1) and UMKC (3-0). Their lone loss came to Little Rock by a score of 2-0.
• Memphis has scored 11 goals from five players this season while allowing just four scores. Senior forward Valerie Sanderson paces the Tigers with five goals, two assists and 12 points in five matches played. Sophomore midfielder/forward Marie Levasseur and freshman midfielder/forward Serena Dolan both have scored twice, while sophomore midfielder/forward Chanel Hudson-Marks and junior forward/defender Alyxandria Stafford have a goal each.
• Senior Maryse Bard-Martel has played all 450:00 minutes in goal for the Tigers, corralling 17 saves and recording two shutouts.
• Brooks Monaghan is in his 17th season as head coach of Memphis, his alma mater.
UP NEXT
The Sooners conclude their road trip with a pair of matches out West. OU will face Arizona at 9 p.m. CT on Friday, Sept. 16, in Tucson, Ariz., before traveling to Phoenix, Ariz., to face Grand Canyon at 3 p.m. CT on Sunday, Sept. 18.
