Sterling Shepard continued his stellar play, while Sam Bradford, Damien Williams and DeMarco Murray all found the end zone and punter Tress Way showed off his arm. All that and more in Week 3 of the NFL season.
After scoring a touchdown in his first NFL game and going over 100 yards receiving in Week Two, rookie wide receiver Sterling Shepard continued his stellar play with five catches for 73 yards and another touchdown in the New York Giants' 29-27 loss to Washington.
Shepard had a hand in the Giants' first score of the game on the team's opening drive as he caught a 12-yard pass down to Washington's 1-yard line, which was immediately followed by a 1-yard touchdown run.
He found the end zone himself on the very next possession, hauling in a 23-yard pass for his team-leading second touchdown of the year.
Through three games, Shepard has 16 receptions for 233 yards and a two touchdowns. That puts him tied for sixth in the league in receiving touchdowns, 17th in receiving yards, 20th in yards per game (77.7) and tied for 24th in receptions.
Shepard is tied for the lead among all rookies in receiving touchdowns and is second in receptions and receiving yards.
Also in the game, Washington's Tress Way punted twice for 79 yards, but his best play came on 4th-and-12 late in the third quarter. Way faked a punt and threw a 31-yard pass completion to Quinton Dunbar. The play prolonged the drive and helped set up a field goal. It was the first pass attempt of Way's career. Trent Williams also started at left tackle for Washington.
DeMarco Murray ran for a season-high 114 yards (his highest total since the 2014 NFL Playoffs) and a touchdown on 16 carries and gained an additional 41 yards on five receptions as Tennessee fell to Oakland, 17-10… Stacy McGee started at defensive tackle for the Raiders in the win … Sam Bradford completed 18 of 28 passes for 171 yards and a touchdown as Minnesota ended Carolina's 14-game home winning streak with a 22-10 victory … Kenny Stills caught five passes for 76 yards and Damien Williams rushed once for 15 yards and caught three passes for 10 yards and a score, while Jordan Phillips had one tackle in Miami's 30-24 overtime victory over Cleveland … Tony Jefferson led Arizona with nine tackles, including a sack and forced fumble, and Jermaine Gresham started at right end, but the Cardinals lost to Buffalo, 33-18 … Gerald McCoy made two tackles as Tampa Bay lost to Los Angeles, 37-32 … linebacker Corey Nelson had one stop as Denver topped Cincinnati, 29-17 … Aaron Ripkowski made the first start of his career when he lined up at fullback in Green Bay's 34-27 win over Detroit … Lane Johnson started at right tackle as Philadelphia crushed Pittsburgh, 34-3 … Chris Chester got the starting nod at right guard in Atlanta's 45-32 win at New Orleans Monday night
