IRVING, Texas – University of Oklahoma volleyball senior Kimmy Gardiner was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week as announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon. Gardiner, an outside hitter from Grapevine, Texas, led the Sooners to a 3-0 weekend and was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Oklahoma Invitational.
On the way to earning her first career Big 12 award, Gardiner led the OU attack with 3.22 kills per set as the Sooners racked up three sweeps at McCasland Field House. She hit .441 and added 2.89 digs and 0.67 blocks per set. Gardiner hit .450 in the season opener with 10 kills and nine digs against Oral Roberts (8/26). She followed with her first double-double of the season against UTEP (8/27) with 11 digs and 10 kills before hitting .500 in an error-free, nine-kill effort vs. UMKC (8.27).
A season ago, Gardiner led Oklahoma with 11 double-doubles and was second on the team in kills and digs per set with 2.48 each.
The Sooners are on the road this week at the UALR Tournament with the opening match Thursday night against Little Rock at 6:30 pm. Oklahoma's third of four matches in the tournament will feature OU against Mississippi State, where Gardiner was an AVCA All-America Honorable Mention as a freshman in 2013.
