WACO, Texas – Senior Kady Self hit a grand slam in the eighth inning and sophomore Paige Parker threw a complete game shutout as No. 14/12 Oklahoma (29-7, 5-1 Big 12) clinched the series win at No. 19/18 Baylor (32-9, 5-2) with a 4-0 win Saturday at Getterman Stadium.
After taking the opener 5-0 Friday, OU clinched the series with Saturday's victory. The Sooners are undefeated in their past 12 series against Baylor, going 8-0-4 in that stretch. Oklahoma is now 1-1 in extra-inning games this year, while Baylor sits at 0-3.
Coupled with a Texas Tech loss to Texas, the Sooners are now in the first place in the Big 12 at 5-1 with the Red Raiders in second place at 4-1 and the Bears at 5-2.
Parker was dominant for OU, throwing a career-high 8.0 innings. She struck out six and gave up just four hits with no walks. She's now thrown a career-high 28 consecutive scoreless innings dating back to Saturday against Kansas; it's her seventh career streak of at least 20 consecutive scoreless innings.
With 17 career shutouts, Parker is tied with Michelle Gascoigne for ninth place in Oklahoma history.
Baylor was shut out in back-to-back games for the first time since the second and third games of the 2013 season. The Lady Bears didn't get a runner past first base, and after a leadoff single by Caitlin Charlton in the fifth, Parker retired the final 12 batters she faced.
Parker has won four straight starts against the Lady Bears, while Heather Stearns suffered another loss to the Sooners.
She shut the Sooners out for the first seven innings and struck out eight, but saw her record fall to 15-4. Stearns gave up four runs, three of which were earned, on six hits and two walks.
After seven scoreless innings Saturday, freshman Fale Aviu entered as pinch hitter to lead off the eighth and singled up the middle. Senior Erin Miller then put down a bunt single. After a foul out to left field, freshman Shay Knighten reached safely on an error by Charlton at shortstop to load the bases.
That brought Self to the plate. On a 1-0 pitch, she crushed a deep blast to left field for her second career grand slam.
Knighten had three of OU's six hits, tying a career high in hits, while Self's four runs batted in were a season high.
OU had a chance to do damage in regulation, loading the bases in the top of the first with two outs. Knighten singled, while Self walked and freshman Caleigh Clifton was hit by a pitch. Stearns notched her first strikeout though to keep OU off the board.
Later in the game, Knighten singled in the sixth with one out and stole second base. Back-to-back strikeouts from Stearns, though, kept it scoreless.
The Sooners go for the series sweep Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT, and the game can be seen nationally on ESPN2.
