AMES, Iowa – No. 9/8 Oklahoma finished off a doubleheader sweep of Iowa State (19-28, 1-10 Big 12) and extended its winning streak to 15 games with an 8-1 victory Friday afternoon at the Cyclone Sports Complex.

The 15-game win streak is the Sooners' longest since also winning 16 straight from April 19 to May 23 during the 2014 season. It's tied for the ninth longest win streak in OU history. In addition to 15 straight wins overall, OU has also won 22 of its past 23 contests.

Oklahoma is now 40-7 and 11-1 in Big 12 play. Getting to 40 wins in just 47 games is tied for the third fastest start in program history along with the 2001, 2005 and 2012 seasons. Only 2013 (43 games) and 2007 (44) saw the Sooners get there quicker.

The win streak over ISU now sits at 26 games and is the third longest active streak against another team for the Sooners, trailing only a 32-game run over Wichita State and a 28-game streak versus North Texas. In fact, over the last 20 contests Oklahoma has held Iowa State to two runs or less.

Senior Kelsey Stevens got the win as she threw her third complete game of the season. In 7.0 innings, Stevens gave up just one unearned run on two walks and seven hits. She matched a season high by striking out nine, doing so for the third time this season, and now holds a 9-4 record on the season.

The Oklahoma offense registered 13 hits, including two-hit games from senior Erin Miller, junior Macey Hatfield, sophomore Nicole Pendley and freshman Sydney Romero.

Stevens got all the run support she needed in the first inning.

With one out and one on, freshman Caleigh Clifton extended her on-base streak to 21 games with a walk. Fellow freshman Fale Aviu, who had two hits in game one of the doubleheader, kept up her strong play against the Cyclones when she launched a three-run homer to center field for her eighth homer of the season.

The fast start continued a season-long trend for OU. In the first and second innings this year, the Sooners have outscored opponents 100-15.

The offense kept coming in the third.

Romero pulled a one-out double down the left field line. Two batters later, Clifton drove the first pitch she saw over the fence in right-center for her second career home run.

Leading 5-0, Oklahoma tacked on three more runs in the sixth.

Aviu led off the inning with a walk and fellow freshman Raegan Rogers came on as a pinch runner. The boost of speed worked out when Pendley laced a double to left-center, bringing Rogers all the way home from first base.

After a wild pitch moved Pendley up to third, pinch hitter Macey Hatfield cashed in on the mistake when she singled to left field to make it a 7-0 OU lead. Later in the inning, Romero extended the lead to 8-0 when she sent an RBI single up the middle, plating Hatfield.

Iowa State got its lone run in the bottom of the sixth when Nychole Antillon doubled to right field, moved to third on passed ball and scored on a sacrifice fly by Sammie Hildreth.

Oklahoma and Iowa State close out the three-game series Saturday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for noon.
