FORT WORTH, Texas – The University of Oklahoma baseball team fell to No. 7 TCU twice on Saturday by scores of 12-2 and 2-0 in a series sweep before 4,658 at Lupton Stadium. The Sooners evened their record at 18-18-1 overall and dropped to 4-8 in the Big 12, while the Horned Frogs improved to 27-8 and 9-3.
Oklahoma was run-ruled in game one as OU pitchers struggled to keep TCU off the board. The Horned Frogs took advantage of getting the leadoff man on in all seven innings and bringing him around to score in six.
Freshman right-hander Chris Andritsos (The Woodlands, Texas) dropped to 4-3 with the loss in 2.2 innings of work. He surrendered five runs, four earned, on seven hits and a walk with one strikeout. Right-hander Dalton Horton (6-0) pitched six innings of one-run, two-hit ball.
Freshman center fielder Steele Walker (Prosper, Texas) went 3-for-3 and drove in one of the Sooners' two runs.
Game two of the day saw Oklahoma outhit TCU, 5-4, but ultimately fall. Junior right-hander Jake Elliott (Coppell, Texas) took his first loss of the season. He is 0-1 after tossing 5.1 innings of one-run ball. Elliott struck out four and allowed one run on four hits and one walk. Right-hander Brian Howard (5-1) threw seven-shutout innings with four strikeouts and scattered three hits.
Trailing 1-0 after the fifth, the Sooners would attempt to rally in the seventh, eighth and ninth inning, getting the potential tying run into scoring position twice. After a run came in on a passed ball in the bottom of the eighth, Walker led off the top of the ninth with a double to the right-center. Junior shortstop Sheldon Neuse (Fort Worth, Texas) walked to get the tying run aboard with nobody out, but a 5-4-3 double play quickly thwarted the OU threat.
Oklahoma returns to action for a non-conference Bedlam Match-up Tuesday night at 6:00 pm against Oklahoma State at L. Dale Mitchell Park.
