Sooners Drop 4-2 Decision in Waco

WACO, Texas – The Oklahoma women's tennis team fell to No. 50 Baylor in a 4-2 decision on the road Friday.

The Sooners (7-8, 2-1 Big 12) began the match by dropping the doubles point inside the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center. Baylor's No. 14 duo of Kiah Generette and Blair Shankle got the win at No. 1 over OU's Lily Miyazaki and Emma Devine, 6-1.

The Lady Bears (9-11, 2-1 Big 12) took the doubles point after Elizabeth Profit and Kelley Anderson defeated OU's Zita Engbroks and Christiana Brigante, 7-5.

The Sooners rallied in singles play and took the lead with two straight-set victories. Sethi took the win on court four after the Lady Bears' Anderson retired in the second set. OU grabbed a 2-1 lead when Brigante dropped Baylor's Karina Traxler, 7-5, 6-0, at the No. 5 line.

Baylor took the next three matches to seal the victory. On court one, BU's Shankle topped No. 110 Miyazaki, 6-0, 7-5. Sophomore Malene Stripp was defeated by Baylor's Gabriela Ferreira, 6-1, 1-6, 6-2, at the No. 6 position.

The clinching point came on court two. No. 120 Devine fell in a marathon match to the Lady Bears' Generette, 5-7, 7-5, 6-3. This marked just the second three-set match Devine has played all year and the first since OU's season opener against Wichita State.

The Sooners are back in action Sunday as they face Texas at noon in Austin, Texas.
