Sooners Climb to Finish Third at Southern Highlands

NORMAN – The No. 17 Oklahoma men's golf team surged into third place after the final round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate. The three-day, 54-hole tournament took place at the par-72, 7,510-yard Southern Highlands Golf Club in Las Vegas, Nev.
The Sooners shot a 293 (+5) on Wednesday, advancing five spots in the team standings with an overall 879 (+15).
“The last two days have been very solid for us, and I credit our guys' tenacity and belief system,” OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. “We haven't started out very well this spring, and we have been waiting for the switch to turn on, and yesterday helped. We still have a long way to go, but I like where we are heading.”
No. 8 USC took the title with an 869 (+5) at the tournament, which featured one of the best fields in college golf with nine teams in the top 20 of the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings and 14 in the top 40. No. 2 Florida took second with an 873 (+9). Finishing three strokes behind OU in fourth were No. 5 Texas and No. 14 Arizona State.
Junior Max McGreevy was the best finisher for the Sooners, claiming a tie for third with a three-round 214 (-2). Competing in his 100th career round, McGreevy carded a 73 (+1) and went bogey-free on the front nine, collecting two birdies. His finish is the sixth of his career in the top five.
Luke Kwon also finished in the top 10 with a tie for eighth at 218 (+2) overall. The senior fired his best round of the tournament Wednesday with a 71 (-1), pocketing three birdies, to earn his fifth career top-10 placing.
Freshman Brad Dalke claimed his fourth top-20 finish with a share of 16th. He recorded a 76 (+4) in the third round.
Classmate Blaine Hale saved his best round for last with a 73 (+1). His overall 229 (+13) earned him a share of 56th. Finishing 63rd was sophomore Grant Hirschman, who shot a 76 (+4) in the final round to total a 232 (+16).
“Max and Luke played very well this week, and Brad had a great round yesterday,” Hybl said. “All in all, it was a good week for us, and we will be looking forward to getting back after it in April.”
The Sooners will continue their spring season at the Aggie Invitational in Bryan, Texas, on April 2-3 (Saturday-Sunday).
