NORMAN -- A five-run second inning paved the way for No. 14/13 Oklahoma (12-4) in its 7-0 win in game two of a doubleheader sweep over Dartmouth (2-7). It was the team's sixth shutout of the season.
Freshman Brittany Finney, senior Kelsey Stevens and sophomore Paige Parker combined on a two-hit shutout of the Big Green.
Making her second career start, Finney threw the first 3.0 innings with two strikeouts, two walks and one hit allowed. She allowed two runners to reach in the first, but used a strikeout and a pair of groundouts to keep the Big Green off the board. A double play helped her in the second, while a 1-2-3 inning third ended her day.
Stevens had 2.0 hitless innings after Finney with one strikeout, earning the win and improving to 5-2 on the season. The outing was a positive step forward for Stevens, who left each of her previous appearances without recording an out despite starting in the circle. She retired all six Dartmouth batters she faced with no balls leaving the infield.
Another positive sign was the return of Parker. She pitched only once in five games last weekend in Palm Springs, totaling 6.2 innings, due to a knee injury. Saturday, the Independence, Mo., native finished the game off with one hit allowed and three strikeouts over the final 2.0 frames.
Oklahoma got all the runs it would need in the second inning.
Freshman Fale Aviu and senior Kady Self started the five-run second with back-to-back singles. After Self stole second, a wild pitch allowed Aviu to score and moved Self to third. Senior Whitney Montgomery then lined a single to shortstop making it 2-0.
Sophomore Kelsey Arnold followed Montgomery with a double on a slow roller past second base, extending the lead to 3-0. Freshman Shay Knighten then delivered the big blow with a two-run home run to left field. It was her fifth of the season, tying sophomore Lea Wodach for most on the team.
The Sooners have homered in five straight games and 12 of their last 13 contests. During the current five-game stretch, OU has homered 11 times.
OU added two more runs in the third when Self and freshman Caleigh Clifton hit back-to-back doubles. Later in the inning, a Dartmouth error off the bat of freshman Sydney Romero allowed Clifton to score.
Arnold was 3-4 in the win for OU, tying a career high in hits and pushing her hitting streak to a career-best eight games. Knighten finished 2-4 with her two-run homer and Self was 2-2 with two runs scored.
Wodach went 1-1 with two walks, extending her career best hitting streak to nine games.
Oklahoma returns to the field Wednesday with an in-state matchup at Tulsa. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
