NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma baseball team was swept in a doubleheader by Long Beach State in front of 1,086 fans at L. Dale Mitchell Park on Saturday. Game three of the series is set for a 12:00 pm first pitch on Sunday. Junior right-hander Jake Elliott (Coppell, Texas) gets the ball as the Sooners look to salvage the series.

Oklahoma started from behind after Long Beach State got a pair of runs against junior right-hander Alec Hansen (Loveland, Colo.) in game one. He allowed two runs on two hits and two walks, while the Dirtbags stole four bases in the inning. Left fielder Brock Lundquist notched a RBI-triple and first baseman Garrett Nelson drove him in with a bunt-single.

Senior left fielder Alex Wise (Neosho, Mo.) led off with a single up the middle and junior second baseman Jack Flansburg (Orange, Calif.) followed with a successful hit-and-run single to put two on. LBSU got out of the inning with a pair of groundballs, including a 6-4-3 groundball-double play, the first of five double plays hit into by the Sooners. Oklahoma did get a run back in the bottom of the second to cut the deficit to 2-1. Freshman designated hitter Chris Andritsos (The Woodlands, Texas) hit a leadoff-single through the left side and eventually scored on a bases loaded-walk issued to junior catcher Renae Martinez (San Pedro, Calif.). Another groundball-double play limited the damage for the Dirtbags.

Long Beach tacked on two more runs in the third after a leadoff-single from second baseman Jarren Duran and a walk to right fielder Alex Muzzi. The Dirtbags got one more run off of Hansen in the top of the fourth to push their lead to 5-1. Third baseman Zack Domingues dropped down a bunt-single and scored on a base hit by center fielder Tristan Mercadel.

Hansen (0-3) was lifted after issuing a four-pitch walk with two down in the top of the fifth. In 4.2 innings of work, he allowed five runs, four earned, on five hits and four walks to go with five strikeouts.

The Sooners narrowed the gap to 5-3 on a two-run home run by Flansburg in the bottom of the fifth, but Long Beach got both runs back on back-to-back RBI-doubles by Lundquist and designated hitter Luke Rasmussen to put the game at its final score of 7-3.

Right-hander Chris Mathewson (2-2) got the win in a seven-inning effort. He surrendered three runs, two earned, on four hits and five walks. Mathewson also struck out five batters.

The second game started off nearly identical to the first with Oklahoma playing from behind after the top of the first. Shortstop Garrett Hampson and Durran led off the game with back-to-back singles and were both in scoring position after the throw from center on Durran's hit went to third. Each runner came in to score on a groundball to the right side.

In the bottom of the third, the Sooners claimed their first lead of the day. Freshman third baseman Cade Harris (Leona, Texas) and Flansburg singled with two down. Junior shortstop Sheldon Neuse (Fort Worth, Texas) put OU in front with a three-run blast to left for his fourth home run of the season.

Long Beach reclaimed the lead immediately in the top of the fourth. Lundquist smacked a leadoff-double and Rasmussen followed with a two-run home run to put the Dirtbags on top, 4-3.

Andritsos (2-1), who started game two on the hill, was chased after the long ball. He went four-plus inning with four runs against him on six hits and a walk.

LBSU added two more runs in the eighth to stretch the score to 6-3. Senior right-hander Keaton Hernandez (Palm Springs, Calif.) threw five-quality innings of relief. He allowed two runs, one earned, on five hits and a walk, while striking out four.

Neuse, Flansburg and Harris all recorded two-hit games.
