HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The No. 25 University of Oklahoma baseball team lost in 11 innings, 4-3, at Sam Houston State on Sunday afternoon at Don Sanders Stadium. The Sooners were swept in the weekend series to drop to 3-5 on the season, while the Bearkats improved to 3-5.

Center fielder Bryce Johnson provided the walk-off single for SHSU in the bottom of the 11th. Catcher Robie Rojas started the frame with a leadoff-single and scored the game-winning run from third on a single to center from Johnson, who finished the game 3-for-6.

Oklahoma battled back from a run down in the ninth to force extra inning. Sophomore second baseman Kyle Mendenhall (Carlsbad, Calif.) led off with a hit-by-pitch and went to second on a single by freshman designated hitter Hunter Southerland (Oklahoma City). Freshman third baseman Cade Harris (Leona, Texas) then delivered Mendenhall to the plate with the game-tying run on a single to left.

Junior Sheldon Neuse (Fort Worth, Texas) moved from shortstop to the mound to pitch the ninth inning. He allowed a one-out hit to Johnson, but struck out a pair to send the game to extras.

Neuse (0-1) took the loss in 2.2 innings of relief. He allowed one run on three hits and one walk, while going with three strikeouts. Miles Manning (1-1) got the win for the Bearkats. He tossed the final three innings and surrendered just one run, in a blown save, on five hits and no walks to go with two strikeouts.

Junior right-hander Alec Hansen (Loveland, Colo.) pitched three-plus innings as he was lifted with the bases loaded and no outs in the bottom of the fourth. He allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits and three walks. Hansen struck out five in the start.

Senior right-hander Keaton Hernandez (Palm Springs, Calif.) was excellent in relief of Hansen. One inherited runner scored when Hernandez entered with the bases loaded. Hernandez gave up one run of his own on five hits and no walks, while striking out four.

In the start for Sam Houston, right-hander Riley Gossett lasted six innings. He surrendered six hits and one walk; yielding two runs and struck out four.

The Sooners are back in action on Tuesday, March 1 at home against Central Arkansas at 4:00 pm.
