NORMAN, Okla. – Juniors Sheldon Neuse (Fort Worth, Texas) and Cody Thomas (Colleyville, Texas) each went yard in support of freshman starter Chris Andritsos (The Woodlands, Texas) as the University of Oklahoma baseball team defeated Central Arkansas, 3-0, at L. Dale Mitchell Park on Tuesday evening. The Sooners improved to 4-5 and snapped a three-game slide in the process, while the Bears had a five-game win streak end in falling to 5-4.

“We needed it after the weekend; get us back in a winning way,” commented head coach Pete Hughes. “We feel good about our freshman arms that came in and were dominant.”

Neuse, the OU shortstop, got the scoring started in the bottom of the first with a solo home run to right field. He later singled for his fourth multi-hit game of the season and 43rd of his career.

A right-handed pitcher, Andritsos (2-0) tossed seven-shutout innings in just his second career start. He allowed just one hit; a two-out single in the top of the third after retiring the first eight batters he faced. Andritsos walked one and hit one, while striking out six.

“The maturity of Andritsos to come out when we needed that win and get us that win bodes well,” Hughes said of his freshman starter. “He can get to both sides of the plate and works really fast. He's a strike-throwing machine.”

Following Andritsos' final out, Thomas added to the Sooner lead with a solo blast to right-center; the right fielder's second of the season. Senior left fielder Hunter Haley (Nacogdoches, Texas) then singled up the middle with one down and scored from second on an errant throw from third as senior first baseman Alex Wise (Neosho, Mo.) reached with an infield-single. Wise finished the game 2-for-4 with a double.

Freshman RHP Connor Berry (Sugar Land, Texas) closed the door for Oklahoma with the first save of his career. In his third appearance of the season, Berry threw two-hitless frames. He struck out three and walked a pair.

For Central Arkansas, right-hander Hunter Neal (0-1) lasted 6.1 innings. He surrendered three runs, two earned, on five hits. Neal fanned seven without allowing a walk.

The Sooners are back on the road this weekend for the Dodger Stadium Classic. Oklahoma visits No. 22 USC and No. 21 UCLA before taking on No. 20 Mississippi State on Dodger Stadium.
