WEDNESDAY'S GAME BASICS

No. 20/21 Oklahoma (8-3) wraps up the 2016 Puerto Rico Classic in Las Vegas, Nev., on Wednesday at 9 p.m. CT at South Point Arena. The event is being played in Las Vegas due to concerns over the Zika virus in Puerto Rico. The Sooners put together a furious fourth quarter comeback Tuesday night against California, but fell 82-74.

Gabbi Ortiz led OU with 17 points, while Maddie Manning contributed 16 points, seven rebounds and a career-high seven steals off the bench. Portland State has won both games at the Puerto Rico Classic, defeating Northern Kentucky on Monday, 77-64, and Kennesaw State, 71-61, Tuesday night.

FIVE THINGS TO KNOW

• No. 20/21 Oklahoma play its third game in as many days as it takes on Portland State to conclude the 2016 Puerto Classic on Wednesday in Las Vegas, Nev., at South Point Arena. The event was originally scheduled to be play in San Juan, P.R., but was relocated to Las Vegas due to the threat of the Zika virus. Wednesday's game is just the second all-time meeting between the Sooners and Vikings with OU winning the lone meeting, 85-67, on Dec. 3, 1989.

• OU put together a furious comeback effort Tuesday night against No. RV/20 California, but ultimately fell 82-74. The Sooners forced Cal to a season-high 33 turnovers, while Oklahoma recorded a season-high 18 steals. The 33 turnovers forced were the most by an OU opponent since North Texas recorded 37 on Dec. 7, 2014. The 18 steals (tied for the sixth-most in the Coale era) were the most by the Sooners in a single game since finishing with 20 versus UT-Arlington (Nov. 20, 2013). The 54 second-half points by OU also marked its most in game since scoring 54 versus Quinnipiac in the second half on March 21, 2015.

• Heading into Wednesday's game, redshirt senior Maddie Manning leads the Big 12 with 2.5 steals per game. She picked up a career-high seven steals versus Cal, the most by an OU player in a single game since 2012.

• Junior guard Gabbi Ortiz led OU in scoring for the first time this season, finishing with a season-high 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting. Ortiz's 17 points against Cal rank as the second-highest scoring total for the junior during her OU career.

• Freshman center Nancy Mulkey ranks sixth in the Big 12 with 1.8 blocks per contest. The freshman has recorded at least one block in every game this year to begin the season. It's the first time an OU freshman has accomplished that feat since Courtney Paris recorded at least one rejection in each game to begin the 2005-06 season. Mulkey already ranks 10th in OU freshman history with 20 blocks.

GAME 11 RECAP: CAL

• Down 20 points with 4:15 to go in the fourth quarter to No. RV/20 California on Tuesday No. 20/21 Oklahoma put together a furious comeback bid that fell just short, falling to the Golden Bears, 82-74, at South Point Arena. OU, who entered the fourth downed by 25 points, used a 27-5 run to cut Cal's advantage down to 71-68 with 2:41 to go. The Sooners forced 14 Golden Bear turnovers in the final frame and scored a season-high 33 points in the fourth quarter.

• The Sooners took advantage of their opportunities at the charity stripe in the quarter, hitting 14-of-15 shots at the line. After layups from Chelsea Dungee and Gabbi Ortiz, Maddie Manning scored four straight points at the free throw line to trim Cal's lead to 71-68. Cal responded with four straight points from sophomore forward Kristin Anigwe to push their lead back to six points to eventually hold on for the win. Ortiz led the Sooners with a season-high 17 points off the bench on 7-of-10 shooting, while Manning poured in 16 points along with a career-high seven steals. Peyton Little recorded 15 points and led OU with four assists.

• Anigwe led all scorers with 32 points, hitting 8-of-19 shots from the field and finishing 16-of-22 from the free throw line. The 22 free throw attempts by Anigwe set an OU opponent single-game record. The sophomore also added in a game-high 13 rebounds for the Bears along with three blocks.

PREVIEWING PORTLAND STATE

• Big Sky member Portland State has won both games at the Puerto Rico Classic, topping Northern Kentucky on Monday, 77-64, and Kennesaw State, 71-61, Tuesday night. The Vikings average 74.2 points per game on .433 field goal, .313 3-point and .715 free throw shooting. Portland State ranks 27th in the nation with 17.5 assists per game.

• The sophomore duo of Ashley Bolston and Sidney Rielly bring double-figure scoring averages into Wednesday's game. Rielly leads the Vikings with 16.4 points per game this year. Bolston finished with a team-high 26 points and eight assists in Portland State's victory over Kennesaw State. The redshirt sophomore ranks 14th in the country with 61 made free throws, 24th with 6.0 assists per game and 25th with 75 free throw attempts.

• Redshirt sophomore forward Courtney West provides 9.6 points per game and is 68th in Division with 20 blocks this year, averaging 2.0 blocks per contest.

• Portland State head coach Lynn Kennedy is 10-30 in his two seasons at Portland State.

UP NEXT

Oklahoma begins Big 12 play on Thursday, Dec. 29 at Kansas. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. CT at Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, Kansas. OU swept the season series last year with the Jayhawks.
