Ten Sooners Named to Academic All-Big 12 Teams

NORMAN — Ten players from the Oklahoma soccer team have received Academic All-Big 12 recognition, including nine first-team selections, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Seniors Liz Keester (health and exercise science), Caren Nelson (environmental sustainability), Shiloh Price (arts and sciences planned program), Rachel Ressler (chemical biosciences) and Madison Saliba (health and exercise science), juniors Tori Bowman (management information systems), Madeline Brem (finance) and Lizzie Luallin (health and exercise science) and sophomore Paige Welch (biomedical engineering) were all named to the first team, while sophomore Angela Boyle (international studies) secured second-team honors.
Brem, Keester and Welch were recognized with 4.0 GPAs over the last two semesters. The academic honor is the third for Price, Ressler and Saliba, while Bowman, Brem, Luallin and Nelson have earned academic recognition from the Big 12 twice. This marks the 13th consecutive season that at least five Sooners have been included on the first team.
The first team consists of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while the second-team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
The Sooners will open postseason play on Wednesday in Kansas City, Mo., when they face No. 5 seed Iowa State at 2 p.m. CT in the Big 12 Championship. Earlier this season, OU defeated the Cyclones by a score of 3-0 in Ames, Iowa. The match will broadcast live on the Big 12 Digital Network, with the winner advancing to semifinal play on Friday.
