STILLWATER, Okla. – The Oklahoma men's tennis team was flawless on day two of the 2016 ITA Regional Championships Presented by Oracle, going a combined 7-0 in main draw play in Stillwater.

Senior Florin Bragusi, senior Alex Ghilea and junior Spencer Papa were in action in the main draw for the Sooners on the second day of the Central Region Championships. All three began Friday morning for round of 64 singles play.

Ghilea and Papa both handled business early on without much trouble. Ghilea earned a 6-0, 6-3 win over John Nogalski of St. Louis, while Papa defeated Tulsa's Chase Gordon 6-2, 6-2 to advance to the round of 32.

Later in the morning, Bragusi matched up with Michael Sosnowski of Oral Roberts, taking the opening set 6-3 before dropping set two, 4-6. Bragusi upped his game in the third set for a 6-1 victory and trip to the round of 32.

It wasn't long before the trio was back on the courts for another round of singles play. Ghilea dominated once again, beating Minnesota's George Lovitt with a 6-2, 6-0 victory. Papa also made quick work of Amaury Navette of UMKC in his 6-1, 6-4 win. In a Bedlam match, Bragusi topped Oklahoma State's Nate Roper, 6-1, 6-1 to join his teammates for a berth in tomorrow's round of 16 in singles.

“Today was a good day. We got off to a good start and carried the momentum all the way through. We're looking forward to tomorrow and taking each match as they come.”
- Head coach Nick Crowell

In the evening, Oklahoma's doubles duo of Ghilea and Papa took to the courts again. For a trip to the quarterfinals, the tandem took down Iowa's pair of Robin Haden and Jake Jacoby, 8-6. The win made it 7-0 in main draw action for Oklahoma on their long day.

“Today was a good day,” Oklahoma head coach Nick Crowell said. “We got off to a good start and carried the momentum all the way through. We're looking forward to tomorrow and taking each match as they come.”

In the consolation bracket, junior walk-on Mason Bridegan fell in a hard fought match to Nogalski, 4-6, 6-4, 0-1 (8). Redshirt sophomore John Milstead was topped by Ben Stride of Drake, 2-6, 2-6.

Three Bedlam matchups are set for round of 16 singles action on Saturday. Ghilea will square off versus Tristan Meraut of Oklahoma State for a quarterfinals berth. Papa will go up against Lukas Finzelberg, also of the Cowboys, and Bragusi is set to face OSU's Arjun Kadhe. Kadhe, a three-time All-American, is coming off a season where he compiled 20 singles wins.

In doubles, Ghilea and Papa will face yet another Oklahoma State opponent. Oklahoma's pair is slated for a showdown with the Cowboys' Lucas Gerch and Jurence Mendoza. Gerch is a two-time All-Big 12 selection, and Mendoza finished last year with a 25-12 record in doubles.
