NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma College of Arts and Sciences will recognize Stacey Dales with its Distinguished Alumni Award on Feb. 12 at 6 p.m. CT in the Molly Shi Boren Ballroom located in Oklahoma Memorial Union.
Dales, along with Benton Clark, N. Bird Runningwater, Elizabeth Frame Ellison and David Goodspeed will be recognized for their achievements. Tickets for the event are available for purchase.
Dales earned a bachelor's degree in communication at OU in 2002. A native of Ontario, Canada, she was a two-time Kodak All-American and four-year letter winner for the OU women's basketball team. She was the first player in the history of the program to record 1,700 points, 600 rebounds and 700 assists.
Following her collegiate career, she was the third overall pick by the Washington Mystics in the 2002 WNBA draft. She went on to play seven seasons in the WNBA and was a member of the Canadian team for the 2000 Olympics.
Dales joined the NFL Network in the fall of 2009 and was seen this season filing reports on “Around the League,” “NFL Total Access” and “NFL GameDay Morning.” Prior to the NFL Network, Dales spent seven years as an analyst and reporter for ESPN and ABC, where she covered a variety of sports including NCAA football, men and women's basketball and the NBA. She also contributed columns and written features on NCAA women's basketball for ESPN.com. From 2003-09, Dales also served as a NCAA women's basketball analyst for CBS Westwood One radio, the Sooner Sports Network and CBS' NCAA women's basketball championship special.
In 2014, Dales became the first female athlete to have her numbered honored by the University of Oklahoma in all women's varsity sports. She led the Sooners to their first Final Four appearance and the 2002 national championship game. Dales is OU's all-time leader in career assists (764) and is seventh in points scored (1,920).
