FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — For the second straight meet, the No. 4 Oklahoma women's gymnastics team topped the 197 mark, powering past No. 16 Arkansas, 197.050-195.900, on Sunday afternoon inside Barnhill Arena.
OU (3-1) secured its first road victory of the season with the win over the Razorbacks (1-3), grabbing at least a share of all four event titles and the all-around crown. Senior Keeley Kmieicak grabbed her second consecutive all-around honor, scoring a 39.400.
Sophomore AJ Jackson soared to the vault title with a career-high-matching score of 9.95, junior McKenzie Wofford shared the bars title with Arkansas' Paige Zaziski with identical scores of 9.9, junior Chayse Capps won on beam with a 9.925 and senior Haley Scaman earned top honors on floor with a 9.9.
"I cannot say enough about our senior leadership," OU head coach K.J. Kindler said. "Every one of them is fulfilling a necessary role, and our team is feeding off them."
After the first rotation, which featured the Sooners on bars and the Razorbacks on vault, Oklahoma held a narrow 49.275-49.200 advantage. From there, the Sooners held momentum to lead after each rotation. Jackson started off the meet with a career-high-matching 9.875 on bars, the first of five Sooners to score a 9.8 or better on the event. As the anchor, Wofford recorded a 9.9, while freshman Nicole Lehrmann and Kmieciak posted 9.85s.
All six Sooners recorded scores of 9.8 or higher on vault, highlighted by Jackson's 9.95 in the anchor spot, the best individual score of the meet. Junior Charity Jones also tied her career best on the event with a 9.9, and Scaman tallied a 9.875 in the No. 5 spot. OU finished with a season-best 49.400 on the event, as Arkansas scored a 48.950 on bars.
OU moved to floor for its third rotation, scoring a 49.175, while the Razorbacks posted a 49.025 on beam. Scaman's 9.9 as the anchor paced the Sooners, and Jones and Jackson scored back-to-back 9.85s in the No. 4 and 5 spots, respectively.
"I thought we had great legs and dynamics on floor and vault tonight, which says a lot about our fitness," Kindler said.
Entering the final rotation, the Sooners held a 147.850-147.175 advantage, looking to close strong to secure the victory. In the anchor position, Capps exploded for a 9.925 beam score to put an exclamation point on the meet for the Sooners. Capps finished with a 39.275 in the all-around.
Kmieciak led off on beam with a 9.9, Jones posted a 9.85 in the No. 3 spot and sophomore Natalie Brown added a solid 9.825 in a routine in which she had to improvise a couple of components. The Sooners tallied a 49.200 as Arkansas closed with a 48.725 mark on floor.
"We need to continue to be aggressive in all situations, and Natalie's beam routine was a perfect example of that tonight," Kindler said.
OU will return home on Friday, Jan. 22, when it hosts Iowa State and Arizona State in the Beauty and the Beast Meet, hosted in conjunction with OU wrestling. The meet is slated for a 6:45 p.m. CT start, and tickets are available for purchase online or by calling the OU Athletics Tickets Office at (405) 325-2424 or toll-free at (800) 456-GoOU.
